However, little is known about the true prevalence in Thailand. Objectives To examine the prevalence and characteristics of each HT subtype defined by mean home blood pressure (HBP) and clinic blood pressure (CBP) using telemonitoring technology in Thai hypertensives. Methods A multicenter, observational study included adult hypertensives who had been diagnosed for at least 3 months based on CBP without the adoption of HBP monitoring. All patients were instructed to manually measure their HBP twice a day for the duration of at least one week using the same validated automated, oscillometric telemonitoring devices (Uright model TD-3128, TaiDoc Corporation, Taiwan). The HBP, CBP, and baseline demographic data were recorded on the web-based system. HT subtypes were classified according to the treatment statns This is the first nationwide study in Thailand to examine the prevalence of HT subtypes. Almost one-fourth had white-coat HT or HT with white-coat effect. Approximately half of the treated patients especially in the older males had uncontrolled HBP requiring more intensive interventions. The P. falciparum merozoite surface protein 1 (Pfmsp1) gene is a commonly used molecular marker to differentiate genetic diversity. This study is aimed at developing a nested PCR-Heteroduplex Mobility Assay (nPCR-HMA) for determination of the block 2 of the Pfmsp1 gene. The MAD20 family allele of P. falciparum was used as a control for optimization of the annealing and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis conditions. In order to evaluate the developed nPCR-HMA, 8 clinical P. falciparum isolates were examined for allelic variants. The results revealed 9 allelic variants. Our study indicated that the successful nPCR-HMA with good precision and accuracy offers a more rapid, efficient, and cheap method for large-scale molecular epidemiological studies as compared to nucleotide sequencing. The current study is aimed at determining the impact of insecticide resistance on major malaria vectors' biting, feeding, and resting behaviour in areas with and areas without insecticide resistance in Teso North and Teso South, Busia County, Western Kenya. Methods Mosquito larvae were sampled using a dipper, reared into 3-5-day-old female mosquitoes [4944] which were exposed to 0.75% permethrin and 0.05% deltamethrin using World Health Organization tube assay method. Blood meal, species identification, and kdr Eastgene PCRs were also performed on adult mosquitoes sampled using mosquito collection methods [3448]. Biting, feeding, resting, and exiting behaviours of field-collected mosquitoes from five selected clusters were analysed. Githinji et al.Pulmonary alveolar microlithiasis (PAM) is a rare disease caused by a mutation in the SLC34A2 gene encoding the type IIb sodium phosphate cotransporter in alveolar type II cells. This results in the formation and accumulation of calcium phosphates crystals in the alveoli. Early in the disease, most patients are asymptomatic or might experience mild symptoms. However, in some patients, PAM can progress resulting in pulmonary fibrosis, cor pulmonale, and respiratory failure. We report the case of a 33-year-old Omani male who was referred to our institute with a history of fever and shortness of breath. A chest radiograph revealed bilateral dense consolidation. Chest computed tomography showed bilateral dense interlobular thickening and extensive consolidations with a lower lung predominance. Our findings were highly suggestive of PAM.
